Tyres for our motorcycles are a necessity, but one of the questions always asked are "what tyres should I put on my motorbike ?"

What is the differences in tyres and how do we select the sort of tyres that we should use for our bikes.

Some of the main differences in tyres are, road tyres for road bikes, race tyres for track use and off road tyres for off road or dirt bikes and then it can become a personal choice in tyres as we all have different opinions on what we want our bike to do and how we expect them to feel and perform.

Do you want your tyres to last a very high mileage or for your tyres to give really great traction ?

This is usually one of the main decisions that dictate which tyre choice we make followed by cost of the tyre.

You can start with tyres that will last for a high mileage but often do not grip as well, or you can go for really sticky tyres that grip really well but do not have the ability to last as long as some.

Most of the time our decision leads us to compromise and select a tyre that gives reasonable life as well as good grip.

There can be quite a bit of difference between tyre brands and tyre models in the way they feel under normal city street or touring use through to cruisy rides through the twisty roads and then onto the weekend blast out into the hills that many of us love to play in.

Some tyres give us great feel and lots of feedback to the rider in what they are doing in contact to the road and others just seem to give us no feel.

Confidence in their tyres is one of the most important things that a rider is looking for in their rubber and not many riders enjoy unexpected surprises when the tyres start moving around underneath the bike or loosing traction.
